Tearus strapped his sword to his side. It was a small thing. He heard the bashing of the ram to his father's gates outside. The young lord turned to open the door to his chamber. Another crashing sound. He walked down the steps, and saw the flames outside, as men fell from the battlements. The majority of Araphen's men had left to fight in Caelin, but here were the men of Samos, Lord Offertone's men knocking on the gates. His gates. He opened the door to the upper courtyard and sped up. He couldn't hear his men. He'd read that men inside a castle were usually quieter than the men outside. They were funneled in with each other. They heard death crashing against the barred doors to come and meet them. Tearus went to the silence quickly, without breaking into a run, it might unsettle his men.
It was a windy night for a battle. Archers would have a hard time hitting any targets tonight. Luckily there weren't any of the Tuscana Wyvern Knights tonight. Tearus came down into the outer courtyard, and saw his men gathered about the door. The archers on the battlements pulled furiously, attempting to hold the ram as long as they could. He saw his older sister Idodd ride by on her large horse, issuing orders even in the last seconds. Tearus looked about him at all the buildings and houses throughout the streets of this castle. It was one of the smallest castle fiefs in Lycia, yet it was big enough to house a few thousand. Now the walls held maybe ten thousand, with Cornwell citizens and Bern sympathizers from other castles and towns in Araphen
Tearus lifted his sword. and a few other men raised there weapons. A few of the men had bowed their heads on prayer to Elimine. Tearus bowed his head as well. He set his sword tip to the ground, and prepared himself. The gates rang a final time, and the men outside roared as they poured in through a single crack. No orders were given. There was a single command each man gave himself. Survive.
Tearus surged forward with the rest, despite two elite guards being at his side, and him being in the back, he felt an immediate sense of danger. The young lord had never fought to kill before, and he was filled with fear. He saw a young swordsman coming for him, and one of his guards was occupied. The other was about to step forward when Tearus' fear propelled him forward. He dodged a blow to his face by bending back. He swung at the mans stomach and damaged the plate only a little. He swung again before the man could recover. He hit the man in an un-mailed part of his arm. He dodged a blow from the sword again. He stomped the mans foot, and kicked his other shin. The man swung the sword ferociously, and Tearus blocked it.
The two men ended up locked with each other. The other man had raised his fist to hit the young lord, but Tearus pulled out his Stiletto, and stabbed the man threw the throat.
